Sure, we might say we hate the little pop up windows that so often intrude on our monitors. But can you say that you haven’t at least skimmed through the short message displayed on these commercials?
For me, I realize that even though I dislike them, my eyes still magnetically draw to them and at least read the heading of what they’re trying to push. And I’m not in the minority by saying this. So, it’s easy to understand why nearly every webmaster needs to have a pop up window with a killer headline on their site.
Question is how do you create one?
Really, it isn’t too difficult. In fact, I’m going to give you a simple script that you can install in only a few minutes. Here’s what you need to do.
First, create your webpage that will be displayed in your pop up. But remember, you’ll want to design it with a killer headline so it will grab attention.
Second, you need to install the script that will instruct your webpage to pop up. Here’s how to do it:
Inside of the
section, install the following JavaScript:
-==-
Then, in the body of your webpage, install this script:
-==-
You will notice in that part of the script there’s a url. What you need to do is change it to the url of the page you want to pop.
Also, in the first script, you’ll notice width and height. By changing the values you can create larger or smaller custom windows. Pop ups are fully customizable by just changing a few of the factors in the script. Experiment, and see what works best for your needs.
So now that you know how to create a pop up window, what can you do with it?
1) ANNOUNCE A SALE! Let people know there’s a promotion going on.
2) OFFER OTHER PRODUCTS! Show some of your hottest affiliate links.
3) FREE DOWNLOAD! Let customers sign up for a free sample download of your e-book.
4) SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR NEWSLETTER! A pop up will increase your subscriber base.

Whatever you decide to place in your pop up window, remember the headline is what catches the reader. Make it exciting. Offer something for free and say it in the headline. Catch the reader at first glance and you’ve got a very powerful marketing tool.
