Adobe PHP SDK Takes An Update

After releasing the unofficial Adobe software development kit for PHP this week, Adobe's Mike Potter noted that a few tweaks were needed with the SDK. The PHP SDK emerged earlier in the week, when Potter follow-up post that he had made some changes to it after its debut: Turns out a few files were missing from the .zip file, and some files were misnamed. I've fixed these problems and also added in a new, more simple sample to show how Flex can retrieve XML data from a PHP backend, without requiring the use of a MySQL database. Finally, I've also removed the .svn files from the .zip file, reducing its size to only 1.5 MB. A New BSD License has been assigned to the project, which will be of interest to those developers who wish to use it in their work. That makes it a little friendlier to corporate developers, as BSD terms differ from the GPL when it comes to requiring disclosure of source code for projects that use a BSD-licensed project. On another topic, Potter also Adobe unveiled Flex 2 in June, along with the release of Flash 9. Ben Watson of Adobe characterized a Flex 2 strength as one that would preserve a SOA backend while enabling Flex developers to build a clean client-side app in Flash.
