Amazon.com has introduced "Kindle for PC," a free software application that allows PC users to access Kindle content on their computers.
Users will be able to buy e-books from Amazon without having to own its Kindle e-reader. Previously users had to buy a Kindle or an iPhone or iPod touch to buy e-books from its Kindle store.
The new Kindle for PC download will be available from Amazon next month. Amazon introduced its Kindle for PC software at Windows 7 launch event today in New York City.
"Kindle for PC is also a great way for people around the world to read the most popular books of today even if they don't yet have a Kindle."
Sony's eBook Store and BarnesandNoble.com are compatible with a Mac or a PC, while Kindle for PC is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.
Other fetures of Kindle for PC include:
- Choose from over 10 different font sizes and adjust words per line
- Access their entire library of previously purchased Kindle books stored on Amazon's servers for free
- Zoom in and out of text with a pinch of the fingers (Windows 7 users only)
- Turn pages with a finger swipe (available in a future release for Windows 7 users)
