Blaster Author To Perform Community Service

Jeffrey Lee Parson, author of the Blaster-B Internet worm, settled his case with Microsoft today. In January, Parson was sentenced to 18 months in prison for launching a denial of service attack against the Redmond-based company.

Jeffrey Lee ParsonSophos, had these comments, "This settlement probably makes sense. There is no way Parson or his family would have been able to repay Microsoft for the damage caused by the Blaster-B worm. Parson is already serving a heavy sentence for the crimes he has committed, and it can be hoped that there will be positive results from his subsequent community service." Another part of the agreement stipulates Parson will not be allowed to perform his service in areas involving computers or the Internet.
