Mark Zuckerberg might - just maybe - want to start considering how far in advance big entertainment acts need to be booked. Because, according to new comScore stats, it looks like his social network could be celebrating an important victory over MySpace in about twelve months.
Facebook has already moved ahead of MySpace in terms of unique visitors worldwide. Now it's the title of most popular social network in America that's up for grabs. This could, at least in the short term, be much more important, since our nation's advertisers tend to throw around the most money online. As for how close the race is . . .
comScore)Well, Michael Arrington points out, and "MySpace's U.S. growth rate is 0.8% per month. That's nothing to be ashamed of, but unless things change a lot, Facebook will overtake MySpace to become the largest social network in the U.S. in . . . . January 2010, a year from now."
No other social network is even close to these top two, so the situation is definitely at a showdown stage. It's an understatement to say that all sorts of stuff could change, though. Unless Zuckerberg wants to risk a major embarrassment (and the loss of a security deposit), he should hold off on hiring bands for any specific dates.
