Gemstar-TV Guide Announces Online Acquisitions

Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. a media, entertainment and technology company, announced that it has purchased a number of television-focused Websites; TVShowsOnDVD.com, TV-now.com, and Fansof RealityTV.com as well as certain assets of eVoke TV.

The goal of the company is to broaden the reach of TV Guide Online’s network. In June, of 2006, they purchased JumptheShark.com and plan to redesign the site for a February 28 launch.

TVGuide.com had 3.6 million monthly unique visitors as of December 31, 2006 according to Nielsen Net Ratings. The combined purchased sites including Jump the Shark, had approximately one million unique users.

Rich Cusick, senior vice president and general manager of Digital Media for TVShowsOnDVD.com focuses on providing news and information about TV shows available on DVD. It contains a database of over 6,000 DVD sets featuring 1,000 shows.

Fansof RealityTV.com features forums, show recaps, news and all information related to the never-ending parade of reality television shows.
