Know Your Company’s Dress Code Before You Show Up
Getting an interview is a big win, but arriving in the wrong clothes can undo all that hard work. The first step to making a good impression is to research the company’s actual dress culture. Ask the person who scheduled the interview to clarify the day of the week and any special dress guidelines. If the meeting falls on a casual day, that does not automatically mean you can wear whatever you’d wear to the grocery store. Many businesses interpret casual differently. The best way to get a sense of the real expectations is to observe the workplace when it’s open to visitors. Take a short walk around the building, glance at the uniforms, uniforms, and overall vibe. Note the type of shoes, whether people keep their hair low or high, and if they keep to a neutral color palette or lean toward bright hues. These clues give you a realistic snapshot of the everyday office environment and help you tailor your own look accordingly.
