Strategic Alliance Drives Rapid Deployment of Junxion Box

Junxion and Novatel Wireless have announced a partnership that aims to speed up the rollout of the Junxion Box, a mobile gateway that turns any standard cellular connection into a ready‑to‑use wireless network. The collaboration brings together Junxion’s device expertise and Novatel’s extensive carrier relationships, promising a smoother path from production to market for the Junxion Box.

The Junxion Box is a compact unit that plugs a PC card modem into a laptop, desktop, PDA, or any device that can access the Internet via Wi‑Fi or Ethernet. Inside, proprietary firmware bridges the cellular modem and the device’s networking stack, creating a seamless data tunnel. One Box can serve several users at once, turning a single cellular link into a portable local area network. Support spans the full range of carrier technologies, from 1xRTT and EDGE to the faster 3G families such as 1xEV‑DO, UMTS, and OFDM. For organizations that rely on mobile data, the Box eliminates the need for multiple modems and simplifies management of connectivity on the go.

Novatel’s role is to help Junxion tap the existing data service ecosystem and push the device into the hands of carriers and end users. Brad Weinert, Novatel’s Vice President of Business Development, explained, “We see Junxion meeting a real need in the wireless data market with their device and we also see an opportunity for incremental revenue for our products as well as a source for new data service activations for wireless carriers.” By leveraging Novatel’s distribution channels and industry influence, Junxion can accelerate adoption and ensure compatibility with the carriers’ upcoming 3G deployments.

John Daly, Junxion’s Vice President of Business Development and Marketing, highlighted the strategic fit, stating, “Novatel is an extraordinarily valuable partner. They enjoy a highly influential market position just as true 3G data is being deployed on a large scale.” The partnership also gives Junxion credibility among PC card modem manufacturers, positioning the Box as a trusted gateway solution across a wide array of devices.

Distribution is handled by Trio Technologies, the leading wireless data solution “value‑added distributor.” Trio’s network of over 500 enterprise‑focused dealers covers the entire United States and includes a national master agent for Sprint, Verizon Wireless, AT&T Wireless, and Cingular Wireless. President Gordon Dahl emphasized the Box’s versatility, saying, “The Junxion Box represents the next step in wireless data evolution as we have the convergence of Wireless Local Area Networks and Wireless Wide Area Network technologies in one box providing a unique and compelling solution to numerous mobile and static vertical applications.” He added that 802.11‑equipped laptops and handhelds can now use the Junxion Box as a mobile access point, offering group network access wherever the carriers maintain coverage on national CDMA and GPRS networks.

Since shipping the first commercially available Junxion Boxes last month, the company has delivered units to a broad set of target markets. Government agencies, educational institutions, large enterprises, small and medium businesses, professional services firms, and construction management companies have all benefited from the Box’s flexible deployment options. Customers use the device for portable networks during field operations, at events, for fixed or permanent connectivity in remote locations, and as a redundant or emergency fallback when primary links fail.

David Hsiao, Junxion’s president, noted the timely nature of the launch, stating, “We’re right on track with our market‑entry strategy, and the timing couldn’t be better. The wireless carriers are deploying 3G wireless data network technologies in earnest, and Junxion looks forward to helping our customers fully realize the utility of those networks.” With the support of Novatel and Trio Technologies, the Junxion Box is positioned to become a standard component for mobile connectivity, offering a straightforward way to turn any cellular service into a reliable, multi‑user wireless hotspot.
